Legalization of documents

The consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Berlin legalizes public documents issued by German authorities from the following federal states: Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Denmark.

Important!: Original documents issued by German authorities require prior certification by the federal or Land authorities where the respective document has been issued:

 

  • For federal documents (ex. criminal record) the legalization is made by Bundesverwaltungsamt in Köln;
  • For the documents issued by administrative justice authorities and for the Courts decisions the following authorities are responsible for the legalisation:
    • die Ministerien (Senatsverwaltungen) für Justiz
    • Land - gerichtspräsidenten des Landes
    • Amts - gerichtspräsidenten des Landes
  • The documents of civil status are legalized by the authorities mentioned below depending on the Land where they were issued:
    • in Berlin – LABO II;
    • in Brandenburg – Ministerium des Inneren in Potsdam/ Der Oberbürgermeister als allgemeine untere Landesbehörde Auslandsbeglaubigung;
    • in Bremen – Senator für Inneres, Kultur und Sport;
    • in Hamburg – Behörde für Inneres;
    • in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – Innenministerium Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin;
    • in Niedersachsen – Ministerium für Inneres und Sport – Polizeidirektion;
    • in Nordrhein-Westfalen – Bezirksregierung;
    • in Sachsen – Regierungspräsidium;
    • in Sachsen – Anhalt – Landesverwaltungsamt in Magdeburg;
    • in Schleswig-Holstein – Innenministerium Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel.

 

Important:

 

 

- Given that Germany has objected on accession of the Republic of Moldova to The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalization for Foreign Public Documents of 5th October 1961 (Apostille), Apostille does not apply between Moldova and Germany.

- Confirmation of Danish documents is made by the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs by applying the Apostille. No further legalization is needed at the Embassy.

- According to the Convention on the issue of multilingual extracts from civil status records signed in Vienna on the 8th September 1976, multilingual extracts from German civil status records are accepted without legalization or equivalent formality and translation on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

In order to process the legalization applications submitted personally at the Embassy the following documents must be submitted:

 

  • Application form;
  • The original document, prior certified by the above-mentioned authorities + 1 xerox copy;
  • Bank payment receipts or bank transfers slips as a proof of payment of the consular fees;
  • A xerox copy of the passport;

 

The consular fees should be transferred 5 working days prior to submitting the documents at the Consular Section of the Embassy on the below mentioned accounts in the following amount:

 

On the line “Reason for payment” (Verwendungzweck) please specify the following : “Legalization”+ applicant’s full name + document name + document number.

Legalization services can be provided by post

 

In order to process the legalization application by post, the following must be sent to the bellow mailing address:

  • Application form;
  • The original document, prior certified by the above-mentioned authorities + 1 xerox copy;
  • Bank payment receipts or bank transfers slips as a proof of payment of the consular fees;
  • A xerox copy of the passport;
  • Self addressed envelope with a post stamp (Einschreiben).
